That's the word from Sun coach Mike Thibault Thursday at practice. Whalen missed Sunday's win over Seattle after spraining her right ankle last Friday at Atlanta.
"There’s probably an 80 percent chance she’ll play," Thibault said, referring to Friday's game with the red-hot Chicago Sky. "She scrimmaged some live (Thursday) and she said she felt pretty good. A little sore but she felt pretty good. ... Unless it feels overly sore from (Thursday) to (today), I’m assuming she’ll play."
It's great news for the Sun, who although surviving just fine with Whalen struggling the first two games back from break and then without her Sunday, need the MVP candidate for the stretch run and thereafter. Whalen is averaging 14.4 points, 5.7 rebounds and a league-leading 5.4 assists. She had one of her poorest games of the season on July 18 against Chicago (two points), but was stellar the two other times: 20-7-7 and 20-8-6.
